FAQ

Clear answers matter more than clever phrasing here. This page explains the product truth, permissions and scoring behavior without overpromising.

Is ChickenMeter a real decibel meter?

No. It is intentionally a human discomfort meter. The goal is to reflect how annoying a room feels, not to report scientific SPL readings.

Where does audio processing happen?

In the browser, after the user grants microphone access. The app focuses on real-time analysis for the current session.

Does it record or upload conversations?

The current architecture is built for on-device analysis of live microphone input. No server-side audio pipeline is required for the core experience.

Why does the score not jump on every tiny sound?

Because the algorithm uses smoothing, adaptive baselines and hysteresis to stay readable without feeling sluggish.

What is TV mode for?

TV mode is a large-format desktop view for bigger displays in studios, offices or shared rooms. It stays hidden on mobile.

Can thresholds be tuned?

Yes. Sensitivity, recovery timing and scoring thresholds are isolated in configuration so the behavior is easy to tune and test.
